How we make a list is influenced a number of factors;
- What is it for?
- Work
- Business
- Personal
- Shopping
- Presentations
- Training
and so on, you get the idea. So some of us might have numbers in ink on our hands, others with them nicely ordered in the tech apps and all the others in between.
You have to bear in mind the expectations of your lists, what are they for? That will dictate not only why and how they are written but also the content and order (for another post!) Here are some pointers for list making -in random order:
- Using a calendar is one way. The list is sort of in the workings so to speak. Only problem is your list can be really spread out.
- Use digital apps, I love these, my favourite is ToDoList but can get a bit carried away, my phone memory was overloaded with my lists, deleting was fun tho!
- Keep it simple, I make my daily list then make a Hit list which is choosing about half of the items on the list as priorities.
- Schedule not only the making of the list but the tasks/items on it. When you make your list can effect how it is implemented.
- Make it obvious – on the fridge, on your phone with reminders, shared with family or colleagues.
- Clarify the item, don’t be vague. Maybe put an approx time on it.
- Be prepared to not accomplish everything on your list – but at some point you need to identify why they are not getting done.
- Don’t stress, the idea of lists is to alleviate stress. Ticking or crossing off a ‘done’ task is so rewarding.
My hit list today was:
Writing ‘making a list’ for my blog/20 mins- Identifying which phone I want to buy/ 30 mins – Check
- Finding a fast and easy online loan company to pay for said phone/20mins – Check
- Applying for said loan./10mins
- Arrange to meet girls tomorrow for shopping trip/5mins
